👥 Caragolets 3D Team¶
Caragolets 3D was born from the shared commitment of two professionals —one from the healthcare field and the other from the technological field— to provide real solutions to a need that is often unmet: access to custom-made, comfortable and affordable orthotic devices for children with functional impairments.
Based in the Valencian Community, and with a collaborative spirit open to the whole of Spain, the project aims to bring technology and child health closer together through a human-centered, innovative, and interdisciplinary approach.
🧠 Technical Direction¶
Dr. Juan Bautista Talens Felis
PhD in Electronics · Associate Professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València (EPSG)
and Vocational Education Teacher in Computer Systems and Applications (GVA)
A researcher specialized in health-related technologies, he leads the technical development of the project. His work focuses on the conceptualization, modeling, and digital fabrication of custom orthotic devices, using parametric design tools and 3D printing with flexible and biocompatible materials.
He brings an innovative vision grounded in digital manufacturing, emphasizing accessibility, personalization, and quality of life improvement.
🩺 Clinical Coordination¶
Ms. Susana Tomás Miñana
Pediatric Physiotherapist · Registered Nº 4988 · Specialist in Early Childhood Intervention
With extensive professional experience in pediatric physiotherapy, Susana brings to the project a clinical perspective that is both well-founded and essential. Her expertise allows for the precise identification of each child's functional needs and guides the design of the most appropriate orthotic solution in each case. Her role ensures that every technical proposal is aligned with clinical realities and focused on the child's well-being.
She is actively involved in:
- Pediatric functional assessment with a family-centered approach
- Clinical support during orthosis fitting and adaptation
- Monitoring the everyday use of the device in real-life contexts such as the home or school
She is an active member of the Spanish Society of Pediatric Physiotherapy (SEFIP).
🎯 Project Vision¶
Caragolets 3D is an applied research study that aims to validate new ways of designing, manufacturing, and applying personalized orthotic devices for children, by combining clinical expertise with the potential of digital fabrication.
Our approach is based on:
- Respecting the natural development of each child
- Real collaboration between universities, clinics, and families
- Seeking practical, functional, and well-adapted solutions
💡 Through this alliance between healthcare and technology, we work to create more effective, accessible, and child-centered devices for those who need them most.
